Professor Sandra Taylor
Professor Sandra Taylor is currently at the School of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Tasmania. During the research project she was a Senior Lecturer at the School of Social Work & Applied Human Science, The University
of Queensland.
Sandy has worked as a professional social work
practitioner within a variety of health fields, including Huntington’s
Disease services in Tasmania from 1988 to 1999.
She has strong research interests in psychosocial
genetics, as well as public health, health care policy and legislation
relating to genetics. She currently holds an honorary conjoint research
appointment with Queensland Clinical Genetics Service (QCGS) and
is undertaking a range of research projects in psychosocial genetics
in conjunction with QCGS and the School of Psychology at the University
of Queensland.
Sandy is currently the national secretary of the
Ethics & Social Issues Committee (ESIC) of the Human Genetics
Society of Australasia (HGSA), which is the peak clinical genetics
body in Australasia and contributes to numerous other professional
and academic organisations with which she is affiliated.
She has been an invited speaker at many professional,
clinical, academic and policy forums associated with genetics issues,
as well as at forums for individuals and families affected by genetic
illness.
